Not sure how tonite’s game will go. In the last week or two? The Brewers have swept the Pirates, and taken 2 out of 3 (at Milwaukee) vs the Cubbies. Apparently, they’re on a roll.
Carp’s back at 1B so Peralta can play at 3rd. There’s no GGarcia, Adams, Hazelbaker or Pham in the starting line-up. Jaime sure better bring it this evening…

And more poor base-running undermining a good inning after Garcia gives up a couple of home runs; then the Brewers pile on in the third.

As the announcers mentioned, the Mets seem poise to soar by them in the wild card race.

Well yeah, maybe…

Kinda’ pathetic to watch. I find it surprising to see that Milwaukee’s become quite the force lately, to be reckoned with. At least the new outfielder Jose Martinez got his first hit. It was also nice to see youngster Carson Kelly get put in, so he can get used to the bigs. If we don’t win the next coupla’ games.? Looks like we’re toast. Ah well, so it goes,…

Maybe NOT making the playoffs is exactly the Kick in the Ash DeWalt,Mo and the rest of management needs to acually go out and really do something. No more of these Band-Aides meant to appease the masses. $$$$ isn’t the reason, because of the new T.V. contract………….or maybe it is?

Who knows. Money could be an issue with the Cards. Most of the teams got big-time TV contracts in the billions this past year. From what I gather, the Cards signed a $1B+ TV contract. But I think I read other TV markets could be worth more.
Besides, DeWitt might simply be a more frugal owner than the rest of them, and instructed Mo NOT to take on too much in the way of monetary risks/commitments. Look what’s happened with Leake and the risk they DID take. He’s not exactly turning out to be worth the $80M paid. Then there’s the Heyward deal….a prime example of over-valuing a player.
I DO AGREE that NOT making the play-offs might ultimately light a fire under the Cardinal’s management.
Sounds like Diaz may not be the only addition this coming week. Jen tweeted that Wacha & Rosenthal could become part of the bullpen by then, as well. I guess it’s also possible to piggy-back those 2 as a starter. Like 3 innings each? Rosie all along, has asked to be a starter. Less pressure probably, than the closer’s role?
As Mike Shannon says…as long as our pitchers can’t make it thru a full 6 innings effectively? The chances aren’t great for the Birds to continue competing. Defense & base-running notwithstanding.
The post-game chatter last nite, was about the possibility of removing Jaime from the starting rotation because “delicate” Jaime may no longer have what it takes. He’s an odd bird, anyway.
Bottom line? The NL Wild Card race is tough right now…and neither the Mets NOR the Giants are showing any signs of letting up.
