Hit batter sends Holliday to the DL and now no batting practice for the Cardinals? Not to mention their mouthy manager. Like trying to play sports in Russia with the mind games the Cubs pull.

And look at Rizzo’s slide, supposedly legal but just about as dangerous as last year. React with some emotion at least to these tactics instead of backing off like the Cards do. But then Wainwright and Grichuk etc are not performing. Like there is no fire left.

31 pitch 2-run first inning; pretty much like Wainwright’s last outing.

Yessir, that slide looked kinda’ suspicious. And another injury (Holliday this time) is going to affect things. Well, Yadi gave up after 7 runs. Guess this may be a good time to give Reyes a few innings.

After blowing a winnable game yesterday today is complete humiliation. Williams was another brilliant pickup obviously – who are they kidding with these cheap pickups. All the cheery talk of potential does little to hide that rebuilding is in order and should have started at this trade deadline.

Looks like Reyes won’t make an appearance today. So I suppose MM will use him as a 1-2 punch tomorrow, putting him on the mound after Weaver gets his innings in.
Yep, you’re right, Bob. Things are gradually going down hill, so a WC spot will probably be out of reach now.

Thanks to the change in MLB reporting (used to have separate stories for each team) you cannot read the game recap with a sympathetic group but have to put up with triumphant, abusive Cub fans.

Waver/Reyes might be a combo for the rest of the year to replace Wacha. Problem is they now need to replace Wainwright in the starter’s role too. So each of them may have to start. This has been brewing for a while since his burnout in the playoffs and series with Boston in 2013 I think. Another reason why rebuilding is required. Will Holliday return again to the club or be moved in off season? How much longer until Yadi has to be replaced too?

I know, Bob. Cubs fans are over-the-top, sometimes. Grrrrr. And you’re probably right about both Reyes AND Weaver eventually becoming starters. Just gotta’ wait & see how Weaver does tomorrow. We’ve already seen Reyes in action. Just hope Weaver doesn’t struggle like Michael Mayers did. That…was sad.

Some good comments here – seems many of our fellow fans see the writing on the wall and worry as I do about their willingness to spend enough to compete with the Cubs going forward. And calling Waino an ace any longer is silly:

Turn out the lights this movie is over;
Also, I know the Russian swimmer has been a dink, but Hope Solo gets my vote for A-Hole of the 2016 Olympics.
Holiday better not return, just rebuild. Should have been moved at the deadline. Now he’s worth nothing.

Well, keep in mind that Holliday has a clear no-trade clause. Several interviews I’ve seen over the last year, have indicated that if the Cards don’t pick up his option for 2017? Holliday will simply retire. But then, I’ll bet he’d like a job coaching in some capacity if he’s not playing.
Also, Oquendo has hinted at a coaching job too they’ve said, if he’s ever to return. But his comments would lead one to believe that he either wants MM’s job, or nothing. (Initially, Jose was a consideration along with MM after LaRussa left.)
Tomorrow’s game should be pretty darned interesting. First Weaver, then Reyes on the mound. Who knows how that’ll go. Everyone’s saying that after today’s outing? Jerome Williams will be sent back down to AAA in exchange for yet another Triple-A pitcher. So whoever that ends up being, will be a surprise.
Oh, and here are some questions put to another local St Louis sports writer:

Hochman’s take still leaves me wondering about Matheny. He says he’s had a bad year, but who could do better? My answer is Oquendo. MM has lost the Cardinal Way immage, Oquendo ,I think, could get it back faster than giving MM a chance at a “bounce back year”.
Mo’s shopping the wavier wire for Holiday’s replacement……… the $$$ and stay away from the garbage. Just play who we have, they could use the time to better use than someone playing out the string.
So bird heads what do we do about our future now…….any ideas? I’d start with pitching. Ours stinks other than Martinez and he can go weird at the drop of a hat.
Waino is clearly not an ace anymore, Wacha can’t make it through a full season, ditto for Garcia, and Leake is what he is, a 4-5 guy. Every good team has an ace type guy, so who is available? My first off season target would be Fernandez down in Miami.Second would be a bat……a big bat. Cargo from the Rockies comes to mind. And finally DeWitt may have to up his buget alot more if he whats more than a maybe WC chance in the near future, because the Cubs are real good. Giants win the WS this year over the Orioles.

Problem is MO at this point as well – Leake, Pena, losing Lackey, Fryer, Heyward, wrong guesses on Wong, Grichuk, Adams, Bourjos, Walden etc. Only right moves this year were OH, Piscotty, Diaz and maybe Luke. Jay-Gyorko maybe a standoff? And past few years have drizzled away prospects for Cishek, Nishek, Reymolds, Belisle etc. Not a stellar track record since the 2012 or 2013 season.

Excellent points.
Hope Solo has exceeded A-Hole of the Olympics to A-HOLE of the sporting world.
Check out the bone structure of her face…………hummmm. Looks a little NFL to me.
Temper tantrums……..riod rage??????

Not to mention Kelly and Miller for rentals, “great” fixes like Ellis, Johnson, Masterson, Koatares, Pierszynski, Axford, Peterson, Whittington. And Diaz was almost released too. Too many misjudgements to be accidental.

On the Olympics, I prefer this shared sense of good sport by our two countries.
