It’ll be good to see how Diaz does at SS, this early in the season.

Facing another lefty. Lets see.

I saw an interview with him about being sent up to the bigs. He’s crazy excited & beside himself! Let’s hope that adrenaline translates into a break-out performance tonite. Diaz hit a respectable .340 against LHP’s in the minors. Altho’? That was in AA ball.
Btw, Gyorko’s BA vs lefties is .438.

I hope they live up to those numbers, because two of the first three hitters tonight struck out. If you hit the ball the defense has to do 3 things:field it,throw it, and catch it. This out is an out crap tics me off. Put pressure on the “D” and make them work for cryin’ out loud.

Yeah, I know….

Diaz’ first big-league hit! Good for HIM!!!

Geez, Lyons?

Lyons did well………………….thank goodness!

Yesssir. Thank goodness for THAT! Lyons scares the bejeebers outta’ me when he’s on the mound! Hard to say if he’ll pitch well, or???

“OH” yes! The “Stone Buddha”!

5 to 5 time to pull it out and a chance to take two of three. Power when we needed it………yes.

Bullpen has been great thus far and Oh ……..Oh my, lights out McCutchen is just flat out a star.
UConn up huge at the half.

Agree. Not only is McCutchen a star? But he’s really a class act.

Bullpen great – but all those strikeouts and a couple of weak defensive plays. Can’t win games that way. As you mentioned the other day, the batting coach may have to be reconsidered.

Right, Bob. The pitching tonite was darned good. Wacha has issues on occasion, but he’s so young…and only gonna’ get better as time goes by.

OK, so…like they said in the wrap-up just now? The last time the Cards lost their first 2 games of the season? They won the WS. I’m going with that for now…

Another aside? The Cards’ bullpen tonite, retired 18 batters in a row. The 3rd time since 1976. How ’bout it!

160 and 2 aint bad, could even win the division with that record. As far as the hitting coach goes its hard to place blame on one person. These guys are pros, they need to recoginze their short comings and work on it. Wong can’t pop up a bunt,Carp can’t be 3 and 1 (first inning) and strike out, these aren’t just a hitting coaches fault. Know your job and execute it, period. Now the job is to take game three and not get swepted.

Yer’ probably right, Dave. I suppose one can only coach so much. If the raw talent’s not there…it could simply be a waste of time. Merely some caller’s comment on the radio show the other evening, that caught my attention.
As for Wong? It’s possible that his emotions still get the best of him. Perhaps, as he “seasons”? He’ll lose the nerves & become better focused.
You’re right too, about not being swept. Let’s just hope THAT doesn’t happen tomorrow nite…

Has there ever been another time in Cardinal history where two rookies get their first MLB hit in the same game? Glad to see both Diaz and Hazelbaker get their first one. Now they can relax more, have confidence, and go play.
