September 18: Brewers (79-73) @ Cardinals (84-68)
The Cardinals host the Brewers tonight for the final game of the season and have an opportunity to all but knock Milwaukee out of the National League Central mix with a win. The Brewers trail the Cardinals by five games in the division. Pittsburgh is sandwiched between at 2.5 games back.
Since this time of year is all about magic numbers, here are the two you need to know:
* SIX: The magic number for the Cardinals to clinch a postseason berth (in other words, at least a spot in the Wild Card game)
* NINE: The magic number for the Cardinals for the Cardinals to win the division.
Not much other news to report here from Busch Stadium this afternoon. Shelby Miller makes his 30th start tonight and looks to continue his September roll (20 innings pitched, 1 earned run, three starts). The Brewers have yet to solve Miller, who is 5-0 with a 2.30 ERA in seven career starts against Milwaukee.
In a bit of housekeeping news, a reminder that the quickest and easiest way to get the Cardinals lineup each day is through my Cardinals.com Facebook page. (Link here) I can upload it a photo there immediately after snapping it amid, so that’s the first place it goes.
