June 6: Cardinals (31-30) @ Blue Jays (37-24)
The Cardinals are in Toronto for their second road Interleague series of the season and the team’s first visit north of the border since 2010. The Cardinals are 3-3 here all-time at the Rogers Centre.
Kolten Wong (sore shoulder) is out of the lineup today and is not participating in batting practice. Wong, who had to exit Thursday’s game due to continued discomfort in his left shoulder, said he had an anti-inflammatory shot on Friday and that there is a chance he may miss this entire weekend series. Manager Mike Matheny wouldn’t go that far, instead labeling Wong’s absence as day-to-day. Matheny did not rule Wong entirely unavailable tonight, though Wong said he likely would do nothing more than possibly pinch-run.
With Wong out of the lineup, rookie outfielder Oscar Taveras gets his first chance to hit in the No. 2 hole. Yadier Molina will serve as the team’s designated hitter du jour, giving him a break from behind the plate.
