March 7: Q of the Day

Jenifer Langosch/

I’ve been watching Ozzie Smith’s attempt to gain 100,000 petition signatures to encourage the proclaiming of Opening Day as a national holiday. The momentum seems to have slowed tremendously. Do you know what is being done to promote this petition?

I think it’s to be expected that momentum would slow after the initial announcement and wave of interviews Ozzie Smith did to promote the effort. Budweiser and Smith continue to tweet out reminders about the ongoing collection of signatures, and there is an advertising campaign to coincide with the promotion. Take a look next time you get on and you’ll likely see one of those ads. Budweiser is also slated to release additional promotional videos and has recruited other former players to start plugging the effort.

I’m sure the campaign will get the necessary 100,000 signatures by the deadline. These sorts of things almost always turn out as a success. For those interested in signing the petition, you can do so by clicking here.

I chose NOT too sign the petition because it required registering with, not because I am not in favor the intent of the petition. Bet I am not alone…
