Oh the weather outside is frightful…

As someone who grew up in a place where school was cancelled with the threat of snow, this incoming arctic blast and snowstorm have me a bit intimidated. More than that, though, it all has me peering at the calendar. If you are, too, I’ll save you the math. The number is 41.

Yes, in 41 days Cardinals pitchers and catchers will be reporting to Jupiter, Fla., for a respite from the cold and the kick-off to another season. It’s coming quickly, folks. I promise.

As has already been stated several times in recent weeks, there is little left for the Cardinals to do in the six weeks leading up to the start of camp. Such is a perk for an organization that was active and aggressive early in the Hot Stove season. Essentially, the to-do list is dominated by arbitration cases — three in total: Jon Jay, Peter Bourjos and Daniel Descalso — that still have to be settled. If individual agreements cannot be reached by the end of the month, a February arbitration hearing will be scheduled.

In other news, remember that Cardinals Winter Warm-Up is around the corner and tickets are on sale. For more information on the event and/or to buy tickets, click this link. Also, tickets for player autograph sessions will go on sale Monday. To see the autograph signing schedule — and cost per player — click here. Don’t forget, too, that the St. Louis Baseball Writers Dinner will be taking place as usual in the middle of Warm-Up Weekend. The venue has been moved to the Renaissance Grand hotel and the lineup of former/current players scheduled to attend/be honored at the Sunday evening event is impressive.

For more information on the 2013 honorees, read this story. And tickets can be purchased here. Several media members who cover the Cardinals have spent months planning this event, and I hope you’ll consider attending.

In the meantime, stay warm. And inside.
