April 22: Cardinals (10-8) @ Nationals (10-8)

Following a late-night bus ride from Philadelphia, the Cardinals arrived in Washington DC at about 3 a.m. ET. Since then, there have been a pair of injury issues that have cropped up. Manager Mike Matheny kept Carlos Beltran out of the original lineup on Monday after Beltran alerted him to some back tightness on Sunday. Fortunately, Beltran showed up at Nationals Park feeling better than expected; it was news the Cardinals welcomed, especially when they then learned that Matt Adams felt tightness in his right oblique while taking swings in the batting cage during early work.

And so… Adams — who was initially in the lineup — came out. And Beltran slid back in. As the Cardinals began batting practice on Monday, Adams retreated into the clubhouse for treatment on the injury. It was too early to know whether he’d be available off the bench later in the evening.

Also, you’ll see Allen Craig moving up in the lineup and Jon Jay pushed down. Matheny is hopeful that new spots in the batting order can spark both players. Craig, who is batting .234, is still without a homer this season, though he has driven in 12 runs. Jay is batting just .208 with a .250 on-base percentage. Those numbers are especially glaring when you consider Jay’s role as a leadoff hitter. Don’t be surprised if you see Matt Carpenter hit leadoff for a while.

Hi just wanted to give you a quick heads up and let you
know a few of the pictures aren’t loading correctly. I’m not sure
why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different browsers and both show the same results.
