April 6: Cardinals (1-3) @ Giants (3-1)

Shelby Miller will make his debut this afternoon under overcast skies here at AT&T Park. Rain kept the Cardinals from taking outdoor batting practice this morning, though that rain seems to have moved on. Don’t expect Miller to throw as many pitches (116) as Jake Westbrook did yesterday, but the work he got in a Triple-A game last Saturday pushed him to where he should be able to approach the 100-pitch mark, if needed.

After going 1-for-4 and playing seven innings at third base on Friday, David Freese is scheduled to return to the Memphis lineup as a designated hitter today. If all goes well with that, he’ll play a full game on Sunday. As for whether Freese will be ready to return to St. Louis on Monday: “We’ll see how things go,” manager Mike Matheny said.
