June 21: Cardinals (35-34) @ Tigers (33-35)

Allen Craig hit in the batting cages this morning, saying afterward that his wrist is “alright.” It’s still sore, but the Cardinals are comfortable having him in the lineup today. He will serve as the team’s DH to at least give him a break in the field.

Nothing is set in stone yet, but it sounds as if there’s a strong possibility that Matt Carpenter (right oblique strain) and Jon Jay (sprained right shoulder) will rejoin the team in Kansas City for the next series. Jay is speeding up his timetable with the results he’s had thus far with Triple-A Memphis.

The return of Jay, in particular, could benefit Craig, as it will allow Craig to move back to first base. Craig’s injuries (last season and this one) have come while playing in the outfield, so that move should help in his quest to stay healthy.
