Pearce getting work at third

Steve Pearce is doing everything he can to make the Pirates keep him on the Opening Day roster — and that now includes getting work at third base.
Since joining the organization in 2005, Pearce has appeared in just five games at third. All of those came last year when Pearce was with Triple-A Indianapolis. Now, he is getting consistent work there — as well as at first and in right field — in an effort to make himself a more versatile option.
This development could be key. Assuming Ryan Doumit remains with the organization and that the Pirates carry a third catcher, the club is going to have to find a middle infield backup and someone who can fill in at the corner infield spots. If Pearce can be serviceable at both infield corners, he could make a push to beat out Garrett Atkins, Josh Fields and Andy Marte for that backup role.
Be sure that Pearce has every intention of proving that he is ready to make the Major League club out of camp. Too, he is actually very excited to be back playing third, which is a position he played in college.

Steve is a solid baseball player, just like Neil Walker. They are two of my all-time favorite Indy Indians. Just hope the Pirates realize that versatility also means they know how to play the game and will do anything to make their team successful!!!!!!!!
