Kratz off to Philadelphia

Catcher Erik Kratz won’t be returning to the organization next year, as he has signed a Minor League contract with the Phillies for 2011.
Kratz was one of the feel-good stories for the team last season. His nationally televised call-up was unforgettable. And after all those years toiling in the Minors, the 30-year-old had a plenty memorable Major League debut.
With Kratz no longer a back-up option for the Pirates next year, the club will need to go out and bring in a catcher or two to provide depth at the Triple-A level. This will be especially necessary if the team were to trade Ryan Doumit. The Pirates currently have three catchers — Doumit, Chris Snyder, Jason Jarmamillo — on the 40-man roster.
