I come to you from Charlotte now, where I have missed my connecting flight to Pittsburgh due to delays coming out of Dallas. Fun times. But since I’m in the business of 24/7 news, here are two developments that happened while I was in the air.
And let’s just hope that next time I write, it will be from my home.
- Industry sources have confirmed that the Pirates asked the Rangers for permission to interview Clint Hurdle (Texas’ current hitting coach) and received it today. No word on when Hurdle will travel to Pittsburgh for an interview (assuming he wants one), but this explains why the Pirates’ managerial search went on hiatus over the past three weeks. The organization couldn’t talk with Hurdle until after Texas was eliminated from the postseason.
- Bo Porter, who interviewed early in October for the managerial job, has accepted a position with the Washington Nationals. He will serve as Jim Riggleman’s third base coach. That would seem to suggest that he is out of the running to be the Bucs’ next manager, whether by his own choice or the Pirates’.
